  Ralph Brown's Interrupt List	The best documentation on things like INT's and lo level programming.	FREE

• Assemblers / compilers:

   

  Name	Description	Status
  NASM	Very good open source assembler. It has a very simple syntax and you'll get used to it. It also has the latest opcodes.	Open Source
  CC386	A free, open source C/C++ compiler based on NASM. It's perfect for OS programming because it has the libraries  open source.	Open Source
  DJGPP	Includes the GCC compiler, AS and some very useful bintools.	Open Source

• Emulators:

  Bochs BFE for Windows BFE for Linux	Very good open source emulator with internal debugger, BIOS sources, etc. It also has a visual debugger both in Linux and Windows.	Open Source
  VMWare	Stable emulator but does NOT have an internal debugger.	Demo version free
